Through CrossFit I have never felt physically and mentally more powerful. It doesn't matter who you are CrossFit will have a similar effect on you if you commit to it.

Training Philosophy: Regardless of your shape and size train for physical functionality foremost. Train hard with intent but also train smart with quality programming. Be willing to learn how to do things right. Set ambitious goals. Be patient to avoid injury and overtraining. Don’t bother starting without committing. Nutrition is the key to everything! Can’t void becoming old but you can grow old with ass kicking physical abilities… or at least stay physically sound and independent!

Background: I became obsessed with fitness in college after taking up martial arts, break dancing and acrobatics. I started going to the gym for the first time. When my fitness level increased I was able to do the things I loved at a much greater capacity. Seeing and feeling that progress hooked me to physical training. Now I use my fitness level to enjoy snowboarding and anything else I want to pursue.

After becoming a personal trainer I thought I knew everything about training. It was only after discovering CrossFit that I realized how wrong I was. Instantly, CrossFit changed my perception on what being ‘fit’ and ‘healthy’ meant and revealed an entirely foreign world of training protocols and culture I did not know about. I loved learning about it, doing it, and eventually teaching it at a gym in Seattle.

I opened this gym in 2009 when I was 27. What I enjoy most about my work is teaching movements. The movements used in CrossFit require skill, speed, power, coordination, precision and perfection. Instilling these qualities in those that I train is fun, challenging and rewarding. Getting results matter to me. I take pride in being a CrossFit trainer and strive to stay true to my product as my gym grows. It excites me to be able to share CrossFit with you!

On a more personal level CrossFit has changed everything about me. Being small (130lbs) I struggle with the weighted elements of CrossFit but that is also why I love doing it. It’s not easy and you are constantly being challenged and tested. Through CrossFit I have never felt physically and mentally more healthy, capable and powerful. It doesn't matter who you are CrossFit will have a similar effect on you if you commit to it.

Prior to becoming a CrossFit trainer my work experience included teaching break dancing classes for the YMCA, working at Cascade Elite Gymnastics, instructing at Lee's Martial Arts, teaching Badminton for WWU, coaching at Velocity Sports Performance, and working as an aide at the Donaldson Physical Therapy Clinic.

Training Philosophy: You can be exercising 5 days a week and still not be training. At Outer Edge we can show you the difference. Training isn’t going to a big box gym and jumping on a random assortment of machines, or spending an hour in front of the mirrors doing 5 different types of bicep curls. Training requires a purpose, and a plan. Training involves functional movements that make you faster, stronger, and more injury resistant.

With my engineering background, I enjoy studying fitness and looking at the actual science of why certain training methods are most effective, and you can trust me because I’m literally a rocket scientist! I like people to get strong, get fast, and have fun … no, that wasn’t a typo.

Background: In addition to being a trainer here at Outer Edge I’m an engineer at the Boeing Company. This may not sound like the most traditional background for a CrossFit trainer but it gives me a unique perspective on the mechanics of movement, and the physics of the human body.

I was an avid soccer player in my youth and have competed in racquetball tournaments on the state level as an adult. During the summer I golf, during the winter I snowboard. If it’s a sport, I’ve probably played it, and I’ve even invented a few. If you ever hear about bouncing danger ball or skolf in the 2028 Olympics, you can bet I’ll be there, representing the USA.

I’ve always enjoyed weight training and started out in high school with a pretty traditional routine. My exercising (not training) involved “Chest”, “Arms”, “Back”, and rarely “Legs”.
In college, I got a clue and started doing more traditional Olympic lifting but then got bored of those static routines. I also tried high intensity body weight type training (read similar to p90x) and found that to be challenging and interesting, but lacking a real strength component.

Then I learned about CrossFit, and found out there was a gym opening in my neighborhood. I walked in the first month Outer Edge opened and was hooked. I enjoyed the focus on good technique while lifting, the constant variation of movement, and the community and good-natured competition. I enjoyed it so much I decided to take it to the next level. I became Crossfit Level 1 Certified and started teaching classes at Outer Edge!
